Online Shape poem

At-Home activities for the month of February, 2011 

• Mathematics 
• challenge your child to discover ways of making numbers.
• practice simple addition sums and adding three numbers.
• perform simple subtraction using methods like: number line, counting on fingers, and counting backwards.

• Language Arts

• reading - please read daily with your child encouraging him/her to sound out new words and use picture clues.  Discuss parts of a story (beginning, middle and end) and talk about the character/s of the story.

• we are doing book reports, please review with your child the book report that he/she brings home weekly. 

• speaking and writing - allow your child to talk, and then write, about what they did yesterday, what they will do tomorrow.... these will allow your child to reflect, as well as attempt to write/sound out words to make sentences.

• Challenge your child to listen to the sound of a given word and tell some words that rhyme with it. 

• Talk about story sequencing (First, Second, then....)

• Science

             -Living and non-living things. 

                -Needs of living things.

• Social Studies 

            - Rights and Responsibilities
